Export of another 2,520 tonnes of hilsha fish to India gets go-ahead
The government today granted permission to export 2,520 tonnes of hilsa fish to India ahead of the Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival for Hindu people, the commerce ministry said in a notification.
Some 63 firms got clearance to export the much adored fish to India with 40 tonnes each, according to the notification.
With the latest permission, Bangladesh gave clearance to export 4,600 tonnes of hilsa fish to its neighbour.
On September 20, the commerce ministry gave go-ahead to 52 firms to export 2,080 tonnes of the fish by October 10 this year.
The latest notification said businesses that got permission would be required to export the fish by October 3 this year.
Exporters have to take permission from the commerce ministry to ship the fish.
