Allow shops to run from 12pm to 9pm: Owners urge govt
Bangladesh Shop Owners Association today urged the government to let them keep their shops open from 12 noon till 9pm.
They also called upon the government to take steps to end load-shedding for the sake of small and micro-enterprises.
Helal Uddin, president of the association, made the demands at a press conference at his office in Moghbazar in the capital.
"Traders are now facing a tough situation due to closure of shops by 8pm, added with the load-shedding for 1-2 hours daily," he said.
The association proposed to keep shops open from 12 noon till 9pm, offices from 7:30am till 3:00pm, and educational institutions from 9:00am till 4:00pm.
Such measures will lower electricity usage, save fuel oil, lessen traffic congestion, and increase people's productivity, they opined.
The government on June 20 directed shop owners to close their businesses after 8:00pm in a bid to conserve power and fuel.
