Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) today suggested forming a specialised bank or fund along with formulation of cottage, micro, small and medium enterprises (CMSMEs) act, to recover losses the economy faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Local industries should be prioritised to achieve additional $40 billion export target by 2030," DCCI President Rizwan Rahman said at a press conference at DCCI auditorium today.
CMSME created 80 percent of industrial employment; 45 percent value addition of manufacturing sector come from the sector, Rizwan said.
Regarding the Tk 22,700 crore stimulus package announced for Covid-19 recovery, the affected micro and small entrepreneurs did not avail fund from it due to lack of completed proper documentation processes, the DCCI president said.
Accordant to him, only 54.13 percent of loan was disbursed from the package till December, 2020.
"To strengthen our economy and to recover from the pandemic induced crisis, we need to give special consideration to the CMSME sector," he noted.
