BGMEA, upay sign deal to disburse stipend for BGMEA-SEIP project

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and mobile financial service provider upay recently signed an agreement to disburse stipends.

Faruque Hassan, president of the BGMEA, and Rezaul Hossain, managing director of upay, inked the agreement at the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka, a press release said.

Under this deal, stipends for the skill development of mid-level officials and workers in the RMG sector will be distributed directly into the upay app.

The stipends will be given under the BGMEA-SEIP project, funded by the the Bangladesh government and the Asian Development Bank.

Addressing the event, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said skill development is a top priority to equip the workforce with the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of the industry in the coming days.

BGMEA has taken a number of initiatives to digitise its services to ensure quick, efficient and smooth services to all member factories, which are in alignment with the government's vision of Digital Bangladesh, he said.

Rezaul Hossain, managing director of upay, said, "The RMG industry has been the lifeblood of our economy for decades, accounting for more than 81 percent of the country's total export earnings. This project will help the receivers of the training to hone their skills and contribute more to the industry."
