Winners from AIUB at Firefox App Challenge

The Firefox App Challenge was a competition recently held nationwide, with the Firefox Marketplace open to all submissions of Firefox OS apps. The competition was held between October 22 and December 14, 2014. After an online registration at www.firefoxappchallenge.com, 100 participants were shortlisted to compete and receive two-day training on Firefox OS.
Submissions were accepted in five different categories, with a Champion and Runner-up for each category and five apps recognised as Outstanding Innovations regardless of category. The apps were judged by Jan Jongboom, Firefox OS Grand Master, and his jury.
The gala event was held on January 13, 2015 at the Grameenphone Head Office, hosted by Mozilla, Grameenphone and MCC. Guests from the Ministry of ICT, Grameenphone, Telenor, Mozilla, Mozilla Bangladesh and MCC were present.
Of the fifteen winning teams, three of the participants – Anik Islam Avik, Md. Anisur Rahman and Salman Rahman Desh – were from American International University Bangladesh (AIUB). The Chairman of AIUB, Ishtiaque Abedin, as well as the Directors and Heads of departments were present to congratulate their achievement.

DIU celebrates 13th Foundation Day

The 13th Foundation Anniversary of Daffodil International University was celebrated on January 24, 2015. To mark the day a program was held at DIU Auditorium where Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of DIU was present as the chief guest with other distinguished high officials. Prof. Dr. M. Golam Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Aminul Islam, Founder Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor, Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahbub-Ul-Haque Majumder, Controller of Examinations & Dean FSIT, Prof. Rafiqul Islam, Dean, FBE, Prof. Dr. M. Shamsul Alam, Dean, Faculty of Engineering,  Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Mowla Choudhury, Proctor of the Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Director (International Affairs), Syed Mizanur Rahman, Director (Student Affairs), Md. Milan Khan, Librarian, Mominul Haque Majumder, Director (Finance & Accounts),  all heads of the department and other high officials were present during the ceremony.
Prof. Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor also thanked the Chairman, BOT, Founder Vice Chancellor, academic council and syndicate members of the university for their leadership and contribution.

Orientation and freshers' reception at SEU

Orientation and freshers' reception programme of Southeast University (SEU) for spring semester 2015 was held on January 24, 2015 at its campus located at Tejgaon, Dhaka. Md. Rezaul Karim, Chaiman, BOT, SEU Trust was present at the programme as chief guest, while Dr. Cecep Effendi, Director General, CIRDAP was present as special guest. Professor Anwar Hossain, Vice Chancellor of SEU, presided over the programme. Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury spoke to the newly enrolled students, while Registrar Brig. Gen. Md. Anwarul Islam, ndc, psc, G+ (Retd.) welcomed them. Dean SASS, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim; Dean SSE, Professor Syed Fakhrul Hassan; and Dean SBS, Prof. Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui also welcomed the students and introduced their respective schools.
The programme was attended by members of the BOT, chairs of different departments, distinguished guests, senior academicians, faculty members, staff, newly enrolled students and their guardians.

Social Service Club of EDU distributes warm clothes

Social Service Club, a social awareness and volunteer club of East Delta University (EDU), Chittagong distributed winter clothes among the homeless at Prabartak Circle on January 18, 2015 in the port city. Members of the club collected clothes from staff, students and faculty of EDU during the months of November and December 2014.
Sayeed Al Noman, founder Vice Chairman of the university, inaugurated the programme as the chief guest, while Professor Dr. Siddique Ahamed Chowdhury, Treasurer; Mohammad Shahidul Islam Chowdhury, Associate Professor, Department of English; Nusrat Yeasmin, Lecturer, School of Science, Engineering and Technology of EDU were also present during the distribution.
The programme was organised by Asif, Saad, Shahed, Shourob and Imtiaz – members of the Social Service Club.

Orientation program at WUB

The first phase of the orientation programme for newly admitted students of World University of Bangladesh (WUB) was held at the university campus on January 24, 2015. Professor Dr. M. Mohabbat Khan, Member, University Grants Commission, honoured the occasion as chief guest. Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Morsheda Choudhury, Treasurer; Dr. Musfiq M. Choudhury, Secretary of the Governing Body; Professor Abdur Rouf, Dean, Civil Engineering Department were among others who spoke on the occasion.
The second phase of the programme was held on the same evening where G.M. Joinal Abedin Bhuiyan, Chairman, RAJUK, was present as the chief guest. The chief speaker was Amir Hossain, Editor, Daily Sun and special guests were Sheikh Abdul Mannan, Member, RAJUK (Planning) and Sheikh Md. Shamim Iqbal (Land and Property).
