ULAB signs MoU with SUNY Brockport
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) signed an MoU with the State University of New York - Brockport (SUNY Brockport) on January 7, 2015. Dr. Ralph Trecartin, Assistant Provost for International Education, signed on behalf of SUNY and Prof. Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor, signed on behalf of ULAB.
ULAB and SUNY Brockport have agreed to establish and enhance educational links between the two institutions through both educational and academic exchanges. These exchanges include: mutually beneficial academic programs and courses, exchange of academic staff for purposes of teaching and research, joint research, lectures and training, exchange of students for study, research and internship, and academic transfer agreements.
Prof. HM Jahirul Haque, ULAB Pro Vice Chancellor; Juditha Ohlmacher, ULAB Advisor for Communications and Students Affairs; and Rehnuma Karim, SUNY Brockport faculty member, among others, attended the signing which took place at the Vice Chancellor's Suite of ULAB.
DIU Chairman attends IHEQA 2015 as keynote speaker
Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, DIU joined the International Conference on “Internationalization of Higher Education and Quality Assurance - Trends and Challenges” (IHEQA '15) as a keynote speaker held in Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University, Vellore, India held from January 9 to 10, 2015.
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University organised this conference as a part of the celebration of its 30th anniversary. M. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, India was present in the conference as the chief guest.
Md. Sabur Khan has participated at the conference as a keynote speaker along with other international delegates from prominent universities worldwide. The main focus of the conference was to discuss how partnerships between students, government and universities can prosper and lead to the renewal and expansion of higher education system for the next generation.
Public Health Alumni reunion at NUB
Public Health Alumni, Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) arranged its first reunion at NUB Auditorium in Banani. Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, State Minister for Home Affairs, was the chief guest at the program. Dr. Md. Rustam Ali Farazi, MP, Pirojpur-3 and Didarul Alam (Didar), MP, Chittagong-4 were also present as special guests. Prof. Dr. Abdul Huq, Vice Chancellor (acting), NUB as the chief patron and actor-director Mir Sabbir as the guest of honour attended the event. Prof. Dr. A.Y.M. Abdullah, Chairman, Northern University Bangladesh was the event chair.
The chief guest mentioned that Northern University along with other private universities contribute to the nation's social welfare. He advised MPH students to dedicate themselves to health and social development.
Dr. A.Y.M. Abdullah congratulated the alumni members of the department and requested everyone to devote themselves to the health sector for the betterment of the country.
Along with the president and vice president of alumni association, teacher, officers and alumni members were also present. The ceremony concluded with a cultural occasion.
Department of Pharmacy, SEU holds seminar
Department of Pharmacy, Southeast University (SEU) organised a seminar titled "Technologies for Manufacturing and Quality Control of Hard Gelatin Capsule Shell" on January 7, 2015 at the Seminar Hall of SEU Banani Office. Vice Chancellor of Southeast University, Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain, was present at the inaugural session of the seminar as chief guest while Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, was present as the special guest. Plant Manager of Erawat Pharma Limited, India, Amit Jain presented his paper as keynote speaker. Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Mamunur Rashid chaired the session, while Dean (Acting) SSE & Chairman of the Department of Textile Engineering, Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan, delivered the welcome speech.
Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami appointed Treasurer of NSU
Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Professor, Department of Economics, NSU has joined as Treasurer of NSU on January 5, 2015.
The President of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of NSU has appointed Prof. Goswami as the Treasurer of NSU as per recommendation of the Board of Trustees of NSU. He joined as a lecturer under the Department of Economics at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology after finishing his BSS (Honors) and MSS in Economics from University of Dhaka in 1992. He also served as the Head, Department of Economics, at the same university. At a later stage he finished his Ph.D. in the field of International Economics. After finishing his Ph.D., he joined as a full-time Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, NSU.
Prof. Goswami served as the Chairman, Department of Economics, University Proctor and many other administrative positions before joining as the Treasurer. He was the Treasurer in-charge for more than a year at NSU. He is actively involved in his research areas and has received UGC Award for original research in 2003 and 2006. He also served as the reviewer of several international journals. His papers have been widely published and cited in reputed journals from USA, UK, Australia, Korea and other countries.
Freshers' orientation program at EWU
The orientation program of the newly admitted students of East West University was held on campus at Aftabnagar on January 8, 2015. More than 1400 students were admitted in the graduate and undergraduate programs this semester. Each department arranged individual programs for the new students. The objective of the program was to welcome the new students and orient them to the university facilities, faculty members and the academic system.
Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, BOT, who is also an advisor and visiting professor of the Department of Economics, attended the program. He also attended the program by the Department of Law.
Department of Business Administration arranged the orientation program at the Auditorium Lobby. Professor Dr. M. Sekander Hayat Khan, Vice Chancellor (Acting) of the university, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Professor Dr. Tanbir Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairperson of Department of Business Administration and Dean of Faculty of Business and Economics, chaired the program. Among others, Air Cadre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Registrar of EWU was also present on the stage.
Sebabratee Mukta Scout Group Cycle Hike
The Sebabratee Mukta Scout Group, one of the oldest and most prominent open scout groups of the country, arranged an “Adventurous Cycle Hike” in celebration of its 40th anniversary on January 9, 2015. The aim of this event was to promote bicycles in Bangladesh as an environment-friendly, affordable vehicle.
The cyclists started their journey from the premises of Mohammadpur Government High School and gathered at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. They cycled around different areas of Dhaka – namely Rayerbazar, Bosila and Keraniganj. The event was followed by a certificate awarding ceremony.
Professor Dr. Mohammad SI Mullick, Chairman of the Organising Committee and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, formally opened the event. Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Professor Sahadat Ullah, Ph.D, handed the certificates to the participants as chief guest. Dr. AKM Ruhul Amin attended the ceremony as special guest.
Tauhidul Islam, National Commissioner, Bangladesh Scouts; Ferdaus Ahmed and Amimul Ehsan Khan, Deputy National Commissioners of Bangladesh Scouts, along with many others were present at the inauguration of the event.
ColoursFM 101.6 celebrates first anniversary
On January 10, 2014, Tune Bangladesh Limited launched its radio station, ColoursFM 101.6. It has been a wonderful year since the station went on-air and has been the constant talk of the town for quite a while. ColoursFM 101.6 offers a wide spectrum of shows catering to varieties of listeners and with some of the best music available. Geeteara Safiya Choudhury, advisors to ColoursFM, and distinguished guests were present to celebrate the occasion. Listeners, participants of different shows, guests, hosts, performers, musicians, well-wishers and the entire ColoursFM family were also present to celebrate the anniversary at the station.
