Annual Photo Contest at ULAB

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised prize giving ceremony for its annual photo contest on October 1 at its Dhanmondi campus. A weeklong photo exhibition was held consisting of photographs taken and submitted by ULAB students. This year the theme of the photo contest was 'Millennium Development Goals'.
Judges of the 2014 photo contest were Vice Chancellor of ULAB Professor Imran Rahman, Professor Jude William Genilo and Senior Lecturer Muhammad Abdul Kader.
Dean, Academic Development, Professor Brian Shoesmith awarded the 12 students who won in the photo contest.
Samir Nayan, a student of MSJ department, won the first prize and Razia Sultana, student of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), won the second and third prize.
Professor Brian Shoesmith also delivered the closing remarks. ULAB Registrar Lt Col Md. Foyzul Islam (Retd) was also present during the program along with faculty, admin and students.

DIU wins WITSA Global ICT Excellence Award 2014

Daffodil International University (DIU) has been honoured with the Merit Award in WITSA 2014 Global ICT Excellence Awards.  World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), the largest international ICT organisation, has conferred the award at World Congress on Information Technology 2014 on September 30 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University, received the award.
The award was given to DIU for setting an example as a Digitised University in Bangladesh, for contributing to the ICT sector. Their “One Student One Laptop” program, through which all students are getting free laptops for academic purposes, is one of their many initiatives in that regard.  
DIU has won this prestigious award competing with many international organisations. Bangladesh Computer Samity nominated Daffodil International University to compete in the 'Merit Winner Category'.

Seminar on Foreign Investment and Expectations from Fresh
Graduates as Potential Entrepreneurs

Alumni Association of North South University (AANSU) organised a seminar on 'Foreign Investment and Expectations from Fresh Graduates as Potential Entrepreneurs' on September 30 at NSU seminar hall.
Shiro Sadoshima, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan, was the chief guest at the event, where Vivek Sood, CEO, Grameenphone and Nahar Mahmood, Managing Director, Novartis shared their views about recruiting fresh graduates. They said that academic qualifications are essential, but the aptitudes and attitudes of job seekers are equally important to employers.
Dr. K.G. Moazzem gave a resourceful presentation on foreign investment in Bangladesh as keynote speaker.
Dr. Amin U Sarkar, Vice Chancellor of NSU, was the chair of the session and Benajir Ahmed, Chairman of the BOT, attended the session as a special guest.

Freshers' reception at EDU

The newly enrolled students of the Fall-2014 batch of East Delta University (EDU) were welcomed with a vibrant musical program on October 2, at Probortak Centre in Chittagong.  Sayeed Al Noman, Vice Chairman of EDU, was the chief guest while Professor Muhammad Sekandar Khan, Vice Chancellor was in the chair. Professor Dr. Obaidul Karim, Dean; Shafayet Kabir Chowdhury, Registrar of EDU; teachers, students and guardians were present on the occasion.
Shah Ahmed Ripon, Chairman, Department of English; Rafia Akhter, Assistant Professor and Chairman, School of Science, Engineering and Technology; Tabassum Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, School of Business Administration shared their experiences with students.
Chief guest Sayeed Al Noman said that the university is committed to disseminating global standard education in our country and that EDU has made a long-term plan to create bright students by providing apt facilities for education and research.

Seminar on 'Higher Education in Japan: Prospective and Challenges'

A seminar was held at DIU auditorium on September 22, 2014 on 'Higher Education in Japan: Prospective and Challenges'. Hitoshi Iwamoto, Principal of Fukuoka Foreign Language College and Fukuoka Communication College, was the keynote speaker at the seminar. While Executive Director of DIIT, Mohammad Nuruzzaman presided over it, the session was also addressed by Chief Operating Officer of Admission, Mamoon Rafiq; Director, Daffodil Language Institute, Binoy Bormon; Manager (International) of FFLC Salman Bari. The seminar highlighted education and immigration policy of Japan. The speakers also gave emphasis on learning foreign language to become an international citizen. A good number of participants attended the seminar by registering online.

Legal Awareness Seminar for Youth

The Rotary Club of Dhaka South along with School of Law, BRAC University organised a Seminar on September 30 to commemorate the Youth Service Month. The topic of the seminar was 'Legal Awareness Building'.  Justice Md. Miftah Uddin Choudhury was the chief guest.
The RTN Mahmud Hasan, Chair of Youth Service Committee, RI District 3281 gave a welcome speech where he acknowledged the assistance of the School of Law, BRAC University in respect to organising different awareness building seminars and workshops.
Farhaan Uddin Ahmed, recent law graduate of BRAC University, delivered an interactive talk regarding the importance of legal awareness among youth.
Safina Rahman, District Governor, Rotary International District 3281; PDG Dr. Ishtiaque Zaman and Professor K. Shamsuddin Mahmood, Head, Undergraduate Programme, School of Law, BRAC University were present at the event.
