Delegation of VCs visit India
A delegation from Bangladesh, consisting of nine Vice Chancellors from as many universities (both public and private) visited India as part of a goodwill tour. The High Commission of India arranged the programme as part of its efforts to further promote educational linkages at the university level between the two countries. The team visited some well-known public and private universities in Delhi, which included Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi and OP Jindal Global University, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), Delhi IT Park and a few more.
The delegation included the Vice Chancellors of Southeast University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi University, Chittaging Universtiy, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Independant University Bangladesh, BRAC University, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and State University of Bangladesh.
Shah Cement Awards Architecture Students
Award ceremony of the Poster Design Competition for global launch of “Rafiq Azam: Architecture for Green Living” was held on December 13, 2013 at Bengal Gallery Café, Dhanmondi. The book is the first monograph on contemporary architectural practice in Bangladesh, dedicated to award-winning architect Rafiq Azam by SKIRA-BENGAL. Students and young graduates of architecture, fine arts, graphic design and related fields were invited to design the poster that would convey the spirit of the book. Designs were invited through Facebook, and the event was organised by Shattoto, in association with Shah Cement, the leading cement brand in the country. Architect Enamul Karim Nirjhor, Salauddin Ahmed and artist Syed Hasan Mahmud were in the jury panel.
Md. Tauhidul Islam from AIUB, Sanjana Islam from BRAC University, Mohammad Fatema Alam Omia from AIUB, respectively won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions. Jalal Ahmed, General Secretary of IAB, was present at the event as chief guest. He handed over the prize money, certificates and crests to the winners. Ibrahim Khalil, Brand Manager of Shah Cement; artist Syed Hasan Mahmud; participant students; team members of Shah Cement and Shattoto were also present there. In the opening speech Ibrahim Khalil said that Shah Cement aims at inspiring young talents to work harder so that they can uphold the name of the country.
The winning poster will be used in Global launching programmes which will take place in Dhaka, Colombo, Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Pune, Bangalore, Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, London, New York, Toronto, Beijing, Tokyo, Karachi and Lahore throughout the year 2014.
Team from Siena Heights
University visits Daffodil University
With a view to collaborate with Daffodil International University (DIU), a delegation from Siena Heights University Michigan, USA, visited DIU on December 18, 2013 and held a meeting with DIU authority. Sister Peg Albert, President of Siena Heights University, led the delegation. Other members of the delegation were Mitchell P. Blonde, Vice President for advancement, and C. Patrick Palmer, Vice President of Enrolment of Siena Heights University. Professor Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Director (Studies); Professor Dr. S.M. Mahabub-Ul- Haque Majumder, Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology; Professor Dr. Binoy Barman, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science; Professor Dr. Md. Fokhray Hossain, Director (International Affairs); Professor Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Executive Director (HRDI), and other officials of DIU were present at the meeting.
Both universities discussed possible aspects of cooperation -- like student exchange, one semester to two year exchange programme, organising workshops, joint journal publishing -- and expressed their hopes to sign a MoU.
Discussion at Eastern University
Eastern University organised a discussion on December 20, 2013 at its auditorium to mark Victory Day. Veteran freedom fighter Major General (Retd.) Sayed Mohammad Ibrahim, Bir Pratik, was present as chief guest at the discussion.
In his speech, he upheld the glory and significance of the day. He said it was the day of our greatest victory -- of justice over injustice, of freedom over slavery, and humanity over inhumanity. Professor Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, chaired the discussion. Brigadier General (Retd.) Shafaat Ahmed, Registrar of the university, gave a multimedia presentation on the Liberation War. Members of the board of trustees of EU, faculty members, deans, and students of the university were present at the discussion.
