DIU Chairman honoured at Asia Summer Program-2014
Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Daffodil International University (DIU) was honoured with a reception at the closing ceremony of the three-week long Asia Summer Program-2014 hosted by University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) held on August 25. Y.B. Dato' Seri Idris Bin Jusoh, Minister of Education, Malaysia was the chief guest at the event. Y.B. Dato' Professor Emeritus Dr. Zainai bin Mohamed, Chairperson, Board of Directors, Universiti Malaysia Perlis was the special guest. Brig. Gen. Datuk Professor Dr. Kamarudin Hussin, Vice Chancellor of University Malaysia Perlis presided over the closing ceremony.
In response to the reception, Md. Sabur Khan thanked the organisers for the arrangement and wished to continue DIU students' participation in the coming Asia Summer Programs.
Thirty-three students and five faculty members from Daffodil International University joined Asia Summer Program held from August 5 to 25, 2014 with 300 other delegates of 25 universities from over 12 countries.
ASAUB Observes World Humanitarian Day
ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB), United Nations Information Centre, Dhaka and UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) jointly organised a seminar and interactive discussion on World Humanitarian Day on August 19 at the ASAUB premises. This year, the slogan was 'The World Needs More Humanitarian Heroes'.
Gerson Brandao, Senior Humanitarian Affairs Advisor, UN OCHA was present as the chief guest while Professor Dr. Dalem Ch. Barman, Vice Chancellor of ASAUB, presided over the event. M. Moniruzzaman, Office-in-Charge, UNIC Dhaka read out UN Secretary General's message.
Mozharul Haq, General Secretary, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society; Murshida Akter, Humanitarian Program Manager, OXFAM; Muhammad Mamun, Senior Staff Officer, Fire Service & Civil Defence; Professor Dr. Abu Daud Hasan, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Social Science; Professor Dr. A.B. Siddique, Dean, Faculty of Law were present at the seminar and delivered their speeches. Md. Khalekuzzaman, Registrar, ASAUB delivered the welcome speech at the programme.
Representatives from OXFAM, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and Bangladesh Fire Service & Civil Defence highlighted the activities of their respective organisations.
Two volunteers who worked during the Rana Plaza tragedy also spoke in the programme.
Deans and chairmen from different faculties and departments, Additional Registrar of ASAUB, teachers and students participated in the programme.
IUB Wins BRAC University English Debate Tournament
The IUB Debate Club became the Champion at the BRAC University English Debate Tournament held -- from August 28 till August 30 -- at BRACU's Mohakhali campus.
The winning team consisted of Fardeen Ameen and Christopher Sangma, who won against Dhaka University and Islamic University of Technology in the grand final of the tournament. Prior to that, the team won against IBA and North South University in the semi-finals and quarter finals respectively.
Forty of the country's prestigious institutions took part in the competition where topics ranged from international relations, human rights and unique problems relevant to Bangladeshi society.
The winning team would like to extend its appreciation to faculty moderator Towhid Bin Muzzafar and the Vice-Chancellor of IUB, Professor M. Omar Rahman, for their support.
Delegation from Wuhan Textile University visit GUB
On August 25, a delegation of three members led by Professor Quan Heng, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Wuhan Textile University, People's Republic of China, visited Green University of Bangladesh (GUB). The delegation included Dr. Zou Manling, Project Director of International Office, Wuhan Textile University and Ye Jianping, Runhe Auxiliaries Ltd. The delegates visited different faculties and attended the China-Bangladesh: Cultural Program which was organised in honour of their arrival. In addition, the delegates interviewed and met with all those students of GUB who had applied for Wuhan Textile University scholarship.
This event took place as a result of Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice Chancellor, GUB along with Professor Dr. Md. Saifur Rahman, Dean of Faculty of Science and Engineering, visiting Wuhan Textile University, People's Republic of China and signing a MoU. Through this MoU, both the universities have agreed to exchange curriculum, establish joint research opportunities, initiate student and faculty exchange program, and offer joint degree programs.
International Youth Day celebrated at NSU
North South University (NSU) celebrated International Youth Day on August 13 at the NSU campus. NSU Model UN Club had prearranged a day-long fiesta which consisted of a seminar, game competition, art exhibition and cultural program in alliance with telecommunication operator Grameenphone.
Dr. Amin Sarkar, Vice Chancellor, NSU, chaired the seminar and Benajir Ahmed, Chairman (BOT), NSU, was present as a chief guest. Dr. A.N.M. Meshquat Uddin, Pro Vice Chancellor, NSU and Dr. A.Q.M.A. Rahman Bhuiyan, Club Advisor, NSU MUN Club also spoke at the event.
