'Bring killers of Fanu to book within 72 hours'
All the 52 union parishad chairmen in the district formed a human chain and held a rally under the banner of Bangladesh Union Parishad Forum (BUPF) yesterday, demanding immediate arrest of the killers of UP Chairman Fazle Rahman Fanu.
Golam Sarwar, founder chairman of the Parishad Forum attended the rally as chief guest in front of Natore Press Club.
Sazzad Hossain Mukul, president of Rajshahi divisional committee of BUPF, Abidhur Rahman, chairman of Biprobeghoria UP and convener of Natore district unit BUPF and Shamima Akter Rosy, chairman of Chugram UP also spoke at the rally.
The leaders of the forum gave 72 hours' ultimatum to the authorities to arrest the killers and threatened to go for a 72-hour strike from Sunday.
The chairmen will held another protest rally at Singra upazila headquarters on Saturday.
Though the UP chairmen serve the common people from the morning to night, they have no security, said Golam Sarwar.
At least 15 union parishad chairmen were killed in the last one year, he said and demanded trial of all the cases.
Fazle Rahman Fanu, 60, executive committee member of the upazila unit of AL and chairman of Kalom union parishad, was stabbed to death by a gang in Shaoil area of the upazila around 12:30pm on Saturday.
Awami League claimed that a gang of criminals, numbering 10 to 12 and led by Kalom union Swechchhasebok Dal president Karim, committed the murder.
