Brazilian pays homage to Eusebio
Brazil coach Luis Felipe Scolari joined the tributes to Portuguese legend Eusebio ahead of the late star's funeral Monday in Lisbon.
Scolari, who had a spell as coach of Portugal from 2003 to 2008, told Globo Sports he had enjoyed good relations with Eusebio, dubbed the "Black Panther" and who died of a heart attack aged 71 Sunday.
"He always had a word to give you a boost. He had great respect for all those representing the national side -- it's a great loss for all of us," said Scolari.
Former Brazil star Zico joined the tributes.
"I had the privilege of playing a few minutes with him during 50th birthday celebrations for (former German star and coach Franz) Beckenbauer. My thoughts are with his family. May God receive him with open arms."
Brazil legend Pele, whose side lost to a Portuguese side bolstered by a two-goal salvo from Eusebio at the 1966 World Cup, had late Sunday lamented the loss of "a brother."
Pele said on Twitter: "I mourn the loss of my brother Eusebio. We became friends at the 1966 World Cup in England. We last met at the recent game between Brazil and Portugal in Boston," on December 10.
Pele published on his Twitter feed a black and white picture of both men taken at the 1966 World Cup, where Eusebio's nine goals helped Portugal finish third.
