Brahmanbaria road crash kills 5
At least five people were killed when a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria this afternoon.
Ali Arshad, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station, told The Daily Star Online that a Dhaka-bound truck from Sylhet collided with an oncoming auto-rickshaw around 3:15pm.
Five passengers of the CNG-run auto-rickshaw died on the spot, the OC said.
The deceased were identified as Mizan, 40, his wife Nilufa Begum, 29, their son Zubayer, 4, Mahfuz, 25, and his son Masum, 6. All the victims hailed from Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila, reports our district correspondent.
Police later seized the truck but it driver managed to flee.
To protest the accident, locals blocked the highway, disrupting communication on the route for at least half an hour, the OC said.
