Bogura by-polls: election campaign of BNP candidate comes under attack
At least 12 supporters of BNP candidate for the by-polls of Bogura-1 constituency were injured in two attacks during their electoral campaigns -- allegedly carried out by ruling party men today.
Two microbuses were vandalised and a motorcycle was torched during the attacks, BNP men alleged.
The injured received primary treatment at a local hospital, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting BNP candidate AKM Ahsanul Tayeb Jakir.
The BNP candidate claimed the attacks were carried out by ruling party men at Nowapara and Tajurpara area under Sariakandi upazila of the district at 1pm.
He alleged a motorcade of "boat" [AL's symbol] supporters, equipped with weapons, carried out the attack when their campaign reached at Nowapara area leaving at least 12 of their activists injured.
The attack took place in police presence, he alleged.
The second phrase of attack took place when the campaign reached Tajurpara area where one of their motorcycles was torched, he claimed.
Awami League candidate Shahadar Mannan could not be contacted over phone despite repeated attempts.
Denying the attacks, AL Sariakandi upazila Joint Secretary said it was a factional clash between two local groups.
Al Amin, officer-in-charge of Sariakandi Police Station said the situation is now under their control.
No one lodged any complaint in this connection, the OC said.
