Bodies of Saudi fire victims to be sent home soon
The bodies of nine Bangladeshi fire victims in Riyadh will be sent to Dhaka soon, said Bangladesh ambassador in Saudi Arabia Shahidul Islam yesterday.
The nine Bangladeshis along with two Indians were killed in a fire that broke out at a furniture factory in capital Riyadh on Monday.
“The Saudi authorities will verify status of the victims--either they were legal workers or illegal. Then, police will submit an investigation report to the authorities. After that we can send the bodies as soon as possible,” he told The Daily Star over the phone.
The envoy said that he had urged the Saudi authorities to complete the procedures in this regard adding, a case has been filed to try the responsible persons after investigation into the fire incident.
He said they had asked the victims' Saudi sponsor to pay compensation against the deaths.
Meanwhile, wage earners' welfare board director (admin) of the expatriates' welfare ministry Ziauddin said they will send money today or tomorrow for arranging air tickets to receive the bodies.
