BNP observes National Solidarity Day today

The BNP will observe “National Revolution and Solidarity Day” today, marking the civil-military “uprising” that led to the release of then army chief Ziaur Rahman from captivity on this very day in 1975.

Some other political parties and social organisations will observe the day from different historical perspectives.

The ruling Awami League and its front bodies consider it as the day of “killing of freedom fighters”. For Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, it is the day of “civil-military revolution”.

To mark the day, the BNP has announced a 10-day programme. The party, as part of the programme, will hold a rally tomorrow at the capital's Suhrawardy Udyan, said a press release.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will visit the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman at the capital's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar  today to offer prayers and lay wreaths. The party has published posters on the day.

Khaleda in her statement on this occasion said the changes on November 7 had “secured” the country's independence and introduced multi-party democracy.

Terming the incumbent government illegal, she said it has been “destroying” the country's economy, culture and democracy. She urged all to get united with the sprit of November 7 to unseat the government.
