BNP, Jamaat activists held in districts
Law enforcers arrested BNP and Jamaat activists in several districts on various charges yesterday and the day before.
Police arrested Earul Alam Liton, president of Bhola district unit Jubo Dal, the youth organisation of BNP, from Bhola Govt. School area at around yesterday noon, reports our correspondent.
Liton was arrested in a case filed by police on 2 December, in which Jubo Dal leaders and activists were accused of attacking police, said Police Superintendent of Bhola Md. Moniruzzaman.
Meanwhile, the district unit Jubo Dal called a day-long hartal today protesting the arrest.
In Khagrachhari, police arrested seven leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations from different areas of Ramgarh and Manikchhari upazilas on Monday night.
In Ramgarh upazila, Guimara police arrested general secretary of BNP Hafchhari union unit Mohammad Abu Bakar, 50, general secretary of Hatimura union unit Mohammad Kamrul, 35, assistant organising secretary of Guimara Thana Krisak Dal Maznu Mia, 32, and local Chhatra Dal activist Mohammad Rasel, 14.
In Manikchhari upazila, police arrested member of Manikchhari Sadar union BNP Mohammad Ali Ladan, 40, local Chhatra Dal activists Mohammad Jewel and Rafiqul Islam, 18.
Superintendent of Khagrachhari police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said that police arrested them on charge of political violence in concerned areas and sent to a Khagrachhari court yesterday noon.
Joint forces in separate drives arrested four activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami from two upazilas of Joypurhat district on Monday night on suspicion of their involvement in sabotage acts.
Police superintendent Hamidul Alam said, a team of the joint forces, raided several spots in Panchbibi and Sadar upazilas of the district at night and arrested the four, reports UNB.
Among the arrestees were three Jamaat men and one BNP activist.
They were held on charges of involvement in vandalism and subversive activities recently during the hartal and blockade programmes of the 18-party opposition alliance in the district.
In Bogra, Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Jamaat leader and former president of Government Azizul Haque College Shibir unit near the deputy commissioner's office in the district town at around 2pm on Monday, reports our correspondent.
The arrestee was identified as Mamunur Rashid, 35. He is accused in the case for March 03, 2013 violence that saw arson and vandalism in Bogra town.
Officer in-charge (OC) of DB Mizanur Rahman said on information, Mamun was arrested from the spot. He was one of the main accused in the case for attacking Awami League district unit president's house on March 03, the OC added.
Mamun was previously arrested by police and was on bail before his rearrest, he said.
