‘BNP-blessed upazila aspirants being attacked’
BNP today complained to the Election Commission that the candidates blessed by the party are being attacked as well as harassed frequently by ruling party men ahead of the upazila elections across the country.
A three-member delegation led by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, the BNP office secretary, submitted the written complaint to the acting secretary to the EC, Sirajul Islam.
In the complaint, they added the houses of BNP-backed aspirants are being looted and vandalised and their family members, including women and children, are being tortured.
Later talking to reporters at the EC, Rizvi alleged that the EC is not working neutrally, and playing ‘a silent role’ in the run-up to the upazila elections.
He also alleged that the EC is keeping silent instead of preventing violations of the code of conduct.
In response, the acting EC secretary said he will inform BNP’s allegations to the election commissioners.
