BNP blasts PM for ‘taking Osman family’s responsibility’
BNP today lambasted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her willingness to take responsibility of Osman family which according to the party is involved in wide range of criminal activities, including killing and abduction.
“By taking responsibility of Osman family, the premier has taken responsibility to protect all godfathers involved in killings and abductions across the country,” BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
He was speaking at a book launching programme at the Jatiya Press Club. Oitijjho Foundation, publisher of the book tiled “Prachir” (wall in English) which has been written by Mohiuddin Khan Mohon, organised the programme.
Taking part in a discussion on an obituary motion on Jatiya Party MP Nasim Osman, Hasina on June 3 said in parliament that if necessary she will take responsibility of Osman family members as well as their children’s education expenses.
Hasina said the Osman family has been targeted and came under attack by some vested quarters time and again since the tenure of Yahya Khan in Pakistan and the successive governments in Bangladesh after 1975.
Pointing to the speech, Fakhrul said in the past she had also sided with godfathers like Joynal Hajari of Feni and Taher of Laxmipur and supported their criminal activities.
“The so-called government’s prime minister has expressed her support to godfathers like Shamim Osman at a time when killings, forced disappearances and abductions are going on across the country,” Fakhrul said adding the premier’s statement has revealed the “character” of the present administration.
Fakhrul said the government wants to remain in power at any cost. “That’s why the Sheikh Hasina government is patronising killers and godfathers.”
