BNP blasts BGB boss
BNP this evening came down heavily on the BGB chief for his statement instructing the paramilitary force to use firearms if its members or people come under attack during the ongoing blockade.
“We are very much concerned and strongly deplore the BGB director general’s order to open fire against political movement. Such instruction is completely out of his jurisdiction and illegal,” BNP standing committee said in a release last night.
Maj Gen Abdul Aziz today said the paramilitary forces deployed to maintain law and order will use lethal arms if the forces and people come under attack.
His warning follows widespread violence during the countrywide nonstop blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance to realise their demand for holding an election under non-party administration.
A number of 22 people were killed while 700 others injured in the last 10 days since January 6.
After being barred by police from coming out of her Gulshan office to attend a showdown in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office on January 5, BNP chief Khaleda Zia announced the nonstop blockade till their demand is met.
