BHF decides on Naveed extension
Bangladesh Hockey federation has decided to extend the contract with national team's Pakistani coach Naveed Alam till the Asian Games, which will be held in Incheon, South Korea in September-October this year.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the federation's governing body yesterday. Naveed was initially appointed on a one-year term in June 2013 and in his first international assignment, Bangladesh finished seventh out of eight teams in the Asia Cup last year. However, Bangladesh recently emerged champions in the Asian Games Qualifiers at home which prompted the federation to extend with the coach.
“After Asia Cup debacle last year, many people raised questions about Naveed Alam's ability but we kept faith on him and he delivered by guiding Bangladesh properly in the recently concluded Asian Games Qualifiers,” said Wing Commander Rafiul Haque, representative of BHF president Air Marshal Enamul Bari yesterday.
The meeting also decided to give another chance to the four rebel clubs -- Mohammedan SC, Mariner Young's Club, Wari Club and Bangladesh Sporting Club – to participate in the next season's premier division league.
“We have decided to bring back those clubs and we are going to start a discussion with the club officials about returning to the league. We will also request them to participate in the next edition of premier league,' said Khaja Rahamatullah, general secretary of BHF on Wednesday.
