Best tech products of 2014
It's that time of the year again when everyone goes all emotional about achievements, failures and new resolutions.
We, however, swoon over the best tech products that were unveiled all throughout 2014.
1. iPhone 6+:
We get it- things bend. But as long as you don't sit on it, the iPhone 6+ is every bit an amazing device. The upgrade from 5S is significant with better cameras, faster processor and loads of new features. And of-course it's the best iPhone you can get. Though, if you're not a big fan of phablets, the iPhone 6 should be what you bring home.
2. Moto360:
Tech wearables, especially smart-watches, need to be a perfect blend of design and performance. The Moto 360 falls a bit short in that category, but only a bit. It's the first smart-watch to offer us a round display and we all agreed that it looks stunning. Motorola pulled off the outlook. It's running Android Wear and has a heart-rate monitor and a pedometer on it's back. It uses inductive charging and can go from 0% to 100 within a hour. However, it does have trouble running a full day. Performance-wise it's mediocre but that can be improved hugely as Google updates its Android Wear. Overall it's a smart-watch that looks and feels great and is perfect for everyday use.
3. iMac with Retina 5K Display:
4K? Nope. Apple decided that was getting old. Make way for 5K everyone. A 27 inch Retina display with 5120 by 2880 resolution. That's 14.7 million pixels we are talking about. Wait, that's not where they stopped. Hear out what it has to offer on the inside:
4.0GHz quad core Intel Core i7 which can turbo boost to 4.4 GHz, 8Gb RAM which you can extend up to 32 Gb, an AMD R9 M295X (4Gb of VRAM) and a 1Tb Fusion drive which can be increased to 3Tb. Look us in the eye and tell us that is not a technological feat by Apple.
4. Surface Pro 3:
Not many can pull off a convertible and when then do, not many manage to stay on top for long. Microsoft brought us the best of both worlds with the new Surface. Packed with a 4th Generation Intel Core i7 with Intel HD 4400 and 8 gigabytes of RAM running Windows 8.1, this is a portable powerhouse at its best. And when I say portable, I mean really portable. It's lighter than an iPad 4 and thinner than the previous versions of Surface. It truly is, I quote, “A tablet that destroys laptops”
5. Alienware Alpha: PC vs Console debates are endless. There is no definite answer to those. But why choose between the two? Why not have both in one package? Alienware Alpha is the bridge between consoles and PCs. Basically what you get is computer that has Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB of storage space and a custom NVidia GPU. That's only the primary model. You can take it up to Core i7, 8GB RAM and 2Tb SATA. NOW, imagine all that in a compact box smaller than an XBox One. Targeted towards couch gaming with ease of a console and the power of a PC, Dell's Alienware Alpha has the potential to be a great gaming machine.
6. Jawbone Up24:
The Jawbone Up24, though not a smart watch, is a perfect fitness tracker that seamlessly incorporates in your life through you daily activities. It can track your sleep, the number of steps you take (rather accurately) and also your cycling and swimming habits. Compatibility with both iOS and Android and a great app to go with it is why it's so easy to use. You can set daily goals and the Jawbone will vibrate to help you remember that, when you've been sitting for a long time or if you've just been lazy. A great way to start being health conscious.
7. LG 105UC9: 4K TVs are all the rage now LG gave us a wonderful one this year. Featuring a 105 inch curved UHD display at a 21:9 aspect ratio it's got everything needed for a rich media experience. It also has LG's Triple XC Engine for making low resolution content run at its 5120 x 2160 display. And it runs webOS which makes it better than ever. 11 million pixels and 4K video at 60fps make movies come to life. It's expensive but hey, we can assure you that it's worth all the money.
8. BMW i3:
Electric cars have been around for some time now and that's because it is the future of cars in an idealistic eco-friendly world. But the real task always lies in making the design meet performance. Above everything the car has to look great and has to have decent power under the hood. For an electric city car, it definitely does. And that would be a range of 81 miles and 124 MPGe along with a 125 kilowatt electric motor which is fueled by a 22 kilowatt-hour-liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack. The interior is beautiful and spacious. While charging, it can reach 80% under less than 4 hours. The BMW i3 is very expensive and will take $42,275 from your pockets.
9. DJI Phantom 2 Vision+:
Toys these days are rather expensive. So is the Phantom 2 Vision+. But make no mistake, it is no child's plaything. Perfect for aerial photography, this quadcopter is pretty easy to set up. The three axis camera at 14 megapixels lets you shoot breathtaking photos and videos up to 1080p at 30fps. And they've added many things to the mobile app as well. You can practice with simulated flights to master the skill of piloting a drone. You can also set a flight path on your phone and the Vision+ will complete it and come back to the ground station all by itself. The camera can tilt 90 degrees and stabilizes itself. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the view it has to offer.
