National Prof Malik urges doctors

National Prof Brig (retd) Abdul Malik has urged doctors to be morally responsible towards the patients, keeping in mind that the country is experiencing high poverty.
“This is a profession through which you can directly serve people. Please serve in the name of the Almighty,” he told doctors at a workshop in the capital's The Daily Star Centre yesterday.
The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases organised the programme on clinical cardiac electrophysiology, the study dealing with treatment of irregular heartbeat.
Global medical device dealer, Medtronic, supported the workshop.
Dr Rafique Ahmed, a consultant of cardiac electrophysiology working in the US, said the increasing rate of alcohol consumption was one of the major reasons for heart failures in Bangladesh.
NICVD Director Prof Abdullah Al Shafi handed over crests to Prof Malik and Dr Rafique for their contribution to the cardiology education in the country.
Dr Mohsin Hossain, Dr M Atahar Ali of NICVD, and Dr APM Sohrabuzzaman of Labaid Cardiac Hospital also spoke.
