BCL men beat up 'Shibir activist'
BCL activists beat an alleged Islami Chhatra Shibir activist on Barisal University campus yesterday afternoon.
The victim is Abdul Hye, a third year Mathematics student of the university. Abdul-al Nahiyan, president of Shibir Barisal city unit, was not sure about Abdul's involvement with the pro-Jamaat organisation as their university unit has not been formed yet.
Abdul said some three pro-BCL students along with four strangers punched him indiscriminately near the campus building when he was walking to his mess with a local magazine named "Alakto" in his hand. Abdul somehow managed to run to the VC's office for shelter and then the VC arranged to drop him at his mess safely. However, the VC refused to disclose any further information.
Confessing to the beating, Jasimuddin, president of BCL Barisal city unit and honours student of Barisal College, said they did so because Abdul was distributing Jamaat-Shibir's leaflets.
However Jasimuddin could not show any such kind of leaflets recovered from Abdul, BU office sources said.
