BCL activists attack UNO office
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists here yesterday attacked Agaoiljhara upazila nirbahi office complex.
Witnesses said, local people on Saturday night caught day labourer Nazrul Sanyamat in the upazila town on charge of possessing drugs and handed him over to police.
Yesterday afternoon, he was produced before a mobile court, led by upazila nirbahi officer Devi Chanda.
Hearing the news, upazila BCL president Kamruzzaman Sernibad Azad rushed to the office of UNO and demanded release the day labourer. However, the UNO asked police to file case against the arrestee.
The BCL leader engaged in an altercation with Devi Chanda over the issue and told party men that the UNO 'misbehaved' with him.
Around 5:00pm, the BCL activists with a protest procession attacked the UNO's office with brickbats. Devi Chanda was not at her office during the incident.
However, no major damage was reported in the attack, said Ramani Ranjan Biswas, office peon of UNO.
Contacted, BCL leader Kamruzzaman refuted the charge and said they only brought out procession, protesting the UNO's bad manner with him.
UNO Devi Chanda also refuted the allegation of misbehaving with the BCL leader.
