Barisal City Corporation (BCC) yesterday announced a budget of Tk 407.89 crore for the 2014-15 fiscal year.
Mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal made the announcement at Nagar Bhaban.
No new tax has been imposed, he said, adding that previous tax rates have not been increased.
According to the budget, Tk 99.06 crore will come from revenue while the rest Tk 308.82 crore will be provided by government and non-government sources for development projects.
Mayor Kamal termed the budget insufficient for development of the city boasting six lakh dwellers, and demanded government grants on need basis.
Major expenditure on development include Tk 75 crore for developing and expanding city streets, Tk 30 crore for constructing bridges and culverts, Tk 30 crore for implementing projects under Bangladesh Municipal Development Funds, Tk 20 crore for constructing infrastructures, Tk 11 crore for constructing Bangabandhu Auditorium, Tk 10 crore for excavating canals, and Tk 10 crore for constructing and expanding drainage and sewage system.
