Baul Abdul Karim Shah passes away
Ekushey Padak winner Baul Abdul Karim Shah passed away at his own residence in Kushtia today at the age of 86.
Shah was the first Baul to receive the Ekushey Padak in arts categories in 2011, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
After prolonged sufferings, the Baul breathed his last around 8:00am at his Chourash Kenalpara house, on the outskirts of the town.
The namaz-e-janaza of Shah was held at Chourash Eidgah ground around 2:30pm. He will be buried at his home village at Kamarpara in Mirpur upazila of the district.
Earlier on April 19, the singer was rushed to Kushita General Hospital with respiratory problem, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.
Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Sayed Abul Belal Hossain gave him a check of Tk 10,000 for his treatment on May 6.
Later on May 31, Shah was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he received Tk 2 lakh from the prime minister’s relief fund.
He returned to his home on June 4 after his treatment, the Bangla daily said.
