Barguna AL men assault 3 journos
The activists of ruling Awami League physically assaulted a vediographer and two correspondents of three private television channels in Barguna town last night.
The supporters of Azizul Haque, AL-backed union chairman of Dholua union in Sadar upazila, beat up SA TV vediographer Nuruzzaman, who was taking video footage when the activists attacked a tea stall owner near Barguna Press Club around 9:00pm, press club secretary Sohel Hafiz said.
They also snatched the video camera of Nuruzzaman, he said.
The attackers also assaulted two other journalists -- Jafrul Hasan Rahman and Riyad Ahmed Musa of private TV channels GTV and Desh TV respectively – when they rushed to the spot to see the matter.
Azizul picked up a rivalry with BNP-backed former chairman Nazrul Islam Mollah after he (Nazrul) was made chief guest at a local football match held yesterday afternoon.
Two brothers of Azizul and their people stabbed BNP supporters Nazrul and his brother Chunnu when they were sitting at the tea stall, Secretary Sohel added.
The attackers also beat up the tea stall owner for allowing the duo at his shop.
The problem erupted with journalists when Nuruzzaman went to the spot and were taking video of the incident.
The injured BNP men were rushed to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital in Barisal.
