Fire breaks out at Sundarbans' Sharankhola Range

A fire broke out at Daser Bharani area under Sharankhola Range of Sundarbans East Forest Division today.

A unit of Sharankhola Fire Service and Civil Defense Station as well as the forest department are working together to bring the fire under control, reports our Bagerhat correspondent quoting a forest official.

The fire might have originated due to high weather temperature, said Abdul Mannan, Sharankhola station officer of the Sundarbans East Forest Division.

The fire broke out around 12:00 pm today, said Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Forest Department.

"To prevent the fire from spreading in the forest, we started cutting fire canals around the site. Hopefully, we will be able to put out the fire very soon," he said.

"Twenty members from the Sharankhola and Morrelgonj stations are working to control the fire in the Sundarbans," said Golam Sarowar, deputy assistant director of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defence.
