2 killed, 1 injured in Chandpur train accidents in 24 hours
Two people were killed and one was injured in separate accidents in Chandpur when hit by Sagarika Express train over 24 hours.
The deceased were identified as Mehedi Hasan (28), of Sheikh Bazar in Chandpur, and a mentally unwell Zahirul Islam (55), said our correspondent.
According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the Chandrika-bound Sagarika Express coming from Chattogram hit Mehedi Hasan's motorcycle at railway crossing in the Wireless area of Chandpur city today, leaving him dead on the spot. Pillion Md Rajon Khan (30) was injured and was later admitted to the Chandpur Sadar Hospital. Mehedi Hasan's body is also kept there.
Earlier yesterday afternoon, Zahirul Islam, who was sitting on the rail line, was killed by Sagarika Express in Enayetpur area. Upon receiving the news from the locals, the railway police came and recovered his body from the scene, said eyewitness Saleh Ahmed.
Railway Police Officer-in-Charge, Murad Hossain, said that both of the bodies were later sent to the Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Chandpur Railway Station Master Shohaibul Sikder said the rail crossing where Mehedi Hasan died was not approved by the railways.
