Journos writes to EC to allow motorbikes

Journalists’ platform Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy (RAFED) today urged the Election Commission to issue stickers for motorcycles to facilitate their professional duty on the election day.

In a letter to the commission, they made the request, a day after the EC issued a guideline stipulating that no sticker will be issued from the Election Commission for using motorcycle on the voting day.

Journalists covering the 11th general election will not be able to use motorbikes on the election day, as per the guideline.

They said that the decision of the commission is contradictory to the tradition as journalists were allowed to use motorcycle in the previous national elections.

Urging the EC to issue stickers for motorcycles, they said media men play a significant role to make the election free, fair and acceptable by collecting and disseminating information to the people which is also important for the Election Commission. Therefore, motorbike is an easy mode of transportation for the media men covering the election.
