BGB ‘ready to handle’ election

Says the force’s Chief Maj Gen Shafeenul Islam

Paramilitary force Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) is fully prepared to tackle any untoward situation on election day, its chief Maj Gen Shafeenul Islam said today.

“We are ready to tackle any kind of adverse situation that might arise during the election. We hope the peaceful and congenial voting atmosphere will prevail,” he said.

He came up with the remark while talking to media after visiting a makeshift BGB camp set up at Patiya High School ground for election, reports our local staff correspondent.

The BGB chief said police personnel and the BGB men have successfully quelled some violent unrest that took place in some places centring the elections.

Maj Gen Shafeenul also informed that around 1,115 platoons of BGB have already been deployed across the country following the directives of the Election Commission.

District administration sources said around 70 platoons of BGB have been deployed in Chattogram district for the upcoming election.
