Bangladesh envoy briefs US Congressman on ICTs

Bangladesh Ambassador in Washington Mohammad Ziauddin met Congressman Ed Whitfield and briefed him about the current status of trials in the International Crime Tribunals (ICTs).
“Bringing the war criminals who had committed crimes against humanity under justice will heal the wounds of the war and end the culture of impunity in Bangladesh,” said Ziauddin in the meeting held at the Capitol Hill, Washington DC.
During the meeting with Whitfiled, also the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and Power and a member of the Bangladesh Caucus, he also discussed the current energy and power scenario and the prospects of renewable solar energy in Bangladesh, according to a media release received here on Friday.
The Bangladesh envoy also described the immense initiatives and successes by the present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resolve the power crisis in the country.
Ziauddin briefed him about the current economic advancements in Bangladesh and stated that Bangladesh is maintaining over 6 percent growth for more than a decade having a population of nearly 160 million.
“Bangladesh is self-sufficient in food and has made headway in sustainable production of rice in water logged and saline areas of the country,” he added.
Ambassador Ziauddin also briefed the Congressman about the potential connectivity in South and South-East Asia, where Bangladesh would be at the center point to connect the economic powers like China, India and Myanmar.
Congressman Whitfield appreciated the immense economic development in Bangladesh and welcomed Ambassador Ziauddin in his new assignment.
