A 112-member team of Bangladesh Army left for Mali today as part of the forces deployment in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA) for the first time.
A total of six contingents including one battalion army personnel and a naval unit will be deployed in the African country. A total of 1,446 armed force’s members will be deployed in the mission, says an Inter Services Public Relations press release.
The deployment will include one infantry division, two signal units, one engineering unit and one transport unit of the Bangladesh Army.
Col Md Jahangir Harun led the first team which left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the morning. Brig Gen Md Abdus Sobhan Chowdhury, director of supply and transportation directorate, saw the army personnel off at the airport.
Bangladesh Army has been discharging its duties professionally in different conflict prone countries for years.
