Bangla Bhai’s close aide held in Rajshahi
Rapid Action Battalion members arrested a close aide of Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, a leader of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), from Rajshahi city this afternoon.
The arrestee is Abdul Majid alias Boltu, 35, hailed from Senopara in Bagmara upazila, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, an anti-militancy team of Rab arrested Majid from Mohisbathan area in the city around 12:15pm, said Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mirza Golam Sarwar, who also led the drive.
Arrest warrants were issued against Majid in four cases filed on charges of his involvement in militant activities, the ASP said.
Majid joined the militant outfit JMB in 2004 and became a close aide of the outfit’s leader Bangla Bhai, who along with five other JMB leaders and activists was executed in 2007 for killing two Jhalakathi judges.
Earlier, Majid was enlisted in the police list for his involvement with the outlawed party, Sorbohara.
