Ban sought in Ctg

Four vehicle owners' associations yesterday demanded ban on battery-run rickshaws on the Chittagong city roads.

They made the demand at a rally before Chittagong Press Club and announced that the four associations will hold a grand rally at Laldighi Maidan on October 21 if their demands are not met.

Kamal Uddin, president of Chittagong Auto-rickshaw-Auto-tempo Shramik Union, claimed that owners of battery-run rickshaws gave "false" information to the higher court to get a status quo in their favour to run their vehicles.

“These battery-run rickshaws are too speedy but the breaks of those are too loose,” he said, adding, “The drivers of these battery-run rickshaws are not trained and cannot control the breaks which cause frequent accidents.”

Other associations are Chittagong City Paddle-run Rickshaw Owners' Association, Chittagong CNG Baby Taxi Owners' Welfare Association and Chittagong City Rickshaw Owners' Drivers' Association.
