Bagerhat transport strike called off

Bagerhat Transport Workers' Association yesterday called off their indefinite transport strike following the release of their leader Hasibul Hasan alias Shipon Mina, general secretary of Inter District Transport Workers Union.
Bagerhat Chief Judicial Magistrate Court's Judge Abu Taher yesterday granted bail to Shipon Mina, also a councillor of Ward no 8 and president of Jubo League municipality, unit, and Siddiqur Rahman, joint secretary of Sadar upazila Tanti League.
Earlier, police arrested Shipon Mina and Siddiqur from their houses in the town on Monday night. The arrests followed a case filed by Md Abu Zafar, executive director of New Basundhara Real Estate Ltd, against Shipon and 14 others for demanding Tk 20 lakh as illegal toll.
Protesting Shipon's arrest, transport workers staged an angry protest by shutting all business houses and halting vehicular movement in all the routes of the district, much to the sufferings of the commuters.
