Woman, 60, stabbed to death at her house

Gold ornaments looted

Posing as an aspirant tenant, a man hit a landlady in her head with something hard and stabbed her to death and looted her gold ornaments in the capital's Paschim Nakhal Para yesterday.

The victim, Amena Begum, 60, was the owner of “Rasul Vila”, Biplab Kumar Sarkar, deputy commissioner (Tejgaon division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star.

Victim's daughter-in-law Barsha told this correspondent that it was around 2:00pm when a man knocked on their door for renting a flat.

Responding to him, Amena went to the ground floor from the first floor of the building to show him the flat.

“Around 25 minutes later, when I came to the ground floor to look for my mother-in-law, I found the ground floor's door latched from outside. As I opened, I found her lying on the floor with stab injuries,” Barsha said.

Amena was rushed to Mohakhali Metropolitan Hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Rawshan Ara, daughter of Amena, said the killer took away gold jewellery, weighing around six tolas, from her mother after killing her.

Barsha said they hung a “To-Let” signboard on February 13 as the fourth and ground floors of the building were empty.

Moni Begum, a next-door neighbour, said she heard Barsha screaming and rushed to the spot.

Amena had been staying with her younger son Rasel on the first floor and her elder son lives on the second floor.

Police were trying to arrest the killer, said DC Biplab.
