Two Biman crew members busted with Yaba in Riyadh

Saudi law enforcement on Tuesday detained two flight attendants of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from a hotel in Riyadh on charge of possessing illegal yaba pills.

The flight attendants, Arif Pathan Rohit and Ferdoush Al Mamun Shishir, were detained from Radisson Blu hotel in Riyadh with yaba, sources at the national airlines said. They, however, could not confirm the amount of the contraband drug.

“Officials of Biman Bangladesh stationed in Riyadh informed me about the arrest. We are trying to collect information in this regard,” Golam Moshi, Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, told The Daily Star last evening.

Talking to this correspondent, General Manager, Public Relation, Biman, Shakil Meraj said departmental actions will be taken if there is substantial proof against the two detained.

According to Saudi rules, possession of drugs is a highly punishable offense.

According to Arif Pathan Rohit's Facebook profile, he studied Elecrical and Electronics Engineering at American International University-Bangladesh, and completed his flying course in Bangladesh Flying Academy. Biman sources have confirmed that the profile belongs to Arif.

The Daily Star could not yet contact Saudi law enforcement for a comment.
