Nine students jailed, four expelled
A mobile court yesterday sentenced nine students to jail on different terms in connection with resorting to unfair means in the Rajshahi University admission test.
Four other applicants were also expelled from the admission test for F and H units.
The convicts are Hasanul Bari, of Kushtia, Jamshedul Islam, of RU Arabic department, Ashiqur Rahman, of RU Botany department, Anas Muhammad Maruf, of Ruet mechanical department, Abdullah Al Noman, of Rajshahi College Physics department, Moshiur Rahman, of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University in Dinajpur, Siddiqur Rahman, of Pabna Edward College, Tushar Chakrabarti, of Ruet, and Jiken Ali, of Chapainawabganj.
Hasanul Bari was jailed for six months for carrying an electronic device in the exam hall during the admission test for H unit.
The eight others were sent to jail for three months for changing answer sheets and helping each other.
Executive Magistrate of Rajshahi Nilufa Begum passed the order following the Public Examinations (Offences) Act, 1980.
The four expelled applicants are Mizanur Rahman, of Rajshahi Medical College, Farid Uddin, of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogra, Mahfuzur Rahman and Ayesha Siddiqua, of Rajshahi.
