Two held for rape, attempt to rape
Police yesterday arrested a man for raping his daughter-in-law in Kurigram, while another was arrested on Tuesday for attempting to rape a minor in Natore.
In Kurigram, the arrestee Altaf Hossain, 55, lives in the district’s Sadar upazila. His son Anisur Rahman works in Dhaka.
Police said that Anisur visited his home in Kurigram from Dhaka on Saturday without informing his family members. When he went home, he found his wife and father in a room.
His wife alleged that her father-in-law raped her multiple times in Anisur’s absence by intimidating her in different ways, said Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station.
On Tuesday, Anisur filed a case against his father. Police arrested the accused and he was produced before a local court that sent him to jail yesterday, the OC said.
In Natore, police arrested a man on Tuesday night for attempting to rape a six-year-old child in Sadar Upazila’s Kathalbaria village.
The arrestee, Sattar Bhuiyan, 35, is a resident of the same village, police said.
Around 1:00pm on Tuesday, the girl was playing near her house when Sattar took her to a nearby field saying he “would give her a bath in the pond”. He then tried to rape the child, said Kazi Jalal Uddin, OC of Sadar Police Station.
Hearing the child’s screams, her family members rushed there and rescued her. However, Sattar managed to flee the scene, the OC said, adding that on information, police found and arrested Sattar that night.
He was produced before a local court, which sent him to jail yesterday, the OC said.
