The victim is Mohiuddin Khan Mohan. A trader of garment factories' leftover fabrics, the 42-year-old man also owned a paint shop.
Witnesses said two men walked towards Mohiuddin on Paris Road in Pallabi and shot him around 9:00pm when he was returning home.
The attackers then fired blank shots and fled the scene on a motorbike driven by their cohort.
Local shopkeeper Hasan Ali, who was walking there at that time, was injured as he was hit by stray bullets.
The two were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Mohiuddin dead. Hasan was undergoing treatment there, said Al-Amin, camp in-charge of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at the DMCH.
