Three sent to jail for rape, attempt to rape
Two local courts in Sylhet and Gazipur yesterday sent three arrestees to jail in two cases over rape and attempted rape.
The tree landed in jail a day after they were picked up by police.
The two arrestees in Sylhet -- Zakir Ahmed Muhsin and his friend Ali Hossain -- are from Pirerchawk area in Sylhet Sadar upazila.
Quoting the 20-year-old rape victim and the arrestee, police said the two were in a romantic relationship.
On November 20, Zakir took the girl to a house in Kollogram village in the same upazila. He raped the girl with the help of Ali Hossain, police added.
Two days later, the victim's father filed a complaint with Gowainghat Police Station about her daughter going missing.
Police on Sunday night rescued the girl from the house in Kollogram village and detained the duo, said Gowainghat OC Abdul Ahad.
Yesterday, the victim's father filed a rape case accusing Zakir, Ali Hossain and some other unnamed people.
The victim was sent to One-Stop Crisis Centre at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Sunday night for medical tests, the OC added.
In Gazipur, a garment factory official was arrested on Sunday night over the attempted rape of a female worker, 19, of the factory in Konabari area.
The arrestee, Masum Billah, works at PN Composite Ltd in Aambag of Konabari. Hailing from Dhandi village in Patuakhali's Bauphal upazila, he lived at a rented house in the same area of Konabari.
Police said quoting the case statement that the victim joined the garment factory in February. The accused had been stalking her since then.
Masum went to the victim's house around 8:00pm on November 1. At one stage, he attempted to rape her. But the victim protested and forced Masum out of her house, added the case statement.
The victim filed the case against Masum with Konabari Police Station on Sunday. Hours later, the accused was picked up by police from Aambagh area, said Kaniz Fatema, sub-inspector of the police station.
