Three killed in road accidents in city
Three people including a young woman were killed in separate road crashes in the capital yesterday.
Runa Akhter, 26, a housewife, was knocked down by a bus while she was crossing Mirpur Road in College Gate area in Mohammadpur around 3:30pm.
The incident happened in front of her husband Liton Sarker and two-year-old daughter Nusrat Jahan Lamia.
Talking to The Daily Star, Liton said they boarded a bus from Kalyanpur and got down at College Gate to visit a doctor on Humayun Road in Mohammadpur.
“We were crossing the road, we were jaywalking. After crossing one lane, I moved faster with my two-year-old daughter while my wife was left behind. And a bus knocked her down,” he told this correspondent at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Runa was rushed to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in critical condition from where she was moved to DMCH.
Doctors at DMCH declared Runa dead around 4:30pm, Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia of DMCH police camp told The Daily Star.
Jamal Uddin Mir, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said a motorcycle rider was also hurt in the incident and police would take action against the bus driver.
In a separate incident, a 70-year-old man Abdus Salam was found in an injured condition near Khilkhet around 7:00am. He was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors declared him dead. His body has been kept at Dhaka Medical College morgue.
Another unidentified woman, aged around 45 years, who was hit by a private car on Friday night in Boubazar area in Hazaribagh, died early yesterday at DMCH.
