Teenage girl gang-raped in Laxmipur
A teenage girl was allegedly gang-raped by a group of five men in Laxmipur’s Ramganj upazila on Monday.
On information, police detained three accused -- Imon, 20, Rasel, 19, and Sharif, 22 -- in Bhadugram village of the upazila yesterday morning, said Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ramganj Police Station.
Quoting the victim, the police official said one Shaon developed a love affair with the victim recently. Luring her with fake promises of marriage, he took the girl to Imon’s house where he, along with four of his friends, gang-raped her.
The 15-year-old victim used to live alone in the upazila’s Noapara village after her parents’ separation, the police official added.
Police were trying to detain Shaon and another unnamed accused, he further said, adding that the girl was sent to Laxmipur General Hospital.
No case was filed in this regard as of 8:47pm yesterday.
Meanwhile, a garment worker was allegedly gang-raped by two men in Narayanganj’s Bandar upazila on Monday.
Police detained the accused -- Sagir, 22, and Arman Ali, 20 -- in Kuripara area of the upazila on Monday night, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandar Police Station.
Later, the accused were shown arrested yesterday morning after the victim’s mother filed a case with the police station, he added.
According to the police official, the duo picked up the 18-year-old girl on her way back to home from factory. They forcibly took her to an abandoned room and raped her.
The criminals fled the scene as the victim fell sick, he said, adding that the victim was sent to Naraynaganj General Hospital for treatment.
A Narayanganj court yesterday sent Sagir and Arman to jail.
