Sued Under DSA: Teacher held for FB post on Nasim
A lecturer of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur was sent to jail for what officials said was her derogatory comment on Facebook about late health minister Mohammed Nasim.
Sirajam Murina was arrested at her home around midnight yesterday and was sent to jail by a court hours later, police said.
A police team from Tajhat Police Station raided the Bangla teacher's home and picked her up, said Inspector Rabidul Islam.
Registrar of the university Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal along with some of his colleagues went to the police station later and filed a case against her under the Digital Security Act, he said.
Shortly before the arrest, Abu Monnaf Al Kibria Tusher, president of the university unit Chhatra League, submitted a written complaint to police with similar allegations.
Officials said Murina made insulting remarks about Nasim on her Facebook page soon after he died on Saturday.
She deleted the post soon afterwards and apologised for it in another post.
Police received a screenshot of the first post as evidence.
