Six killed as bus, truck collide
Six people were killed and at least 30 injured when a bus collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Bagerhat's Fakirhat upazila yesterday afternoon.
Among the dead are three women and a child. The identities of the deceased, all passengers of the bus, could not be determined till filing of this report last night.
Abu Syed Mohammad Khairul Anam, officer-in-charge of Fakirhat Police Station, said a Khulna-bound truck from Dhaka hit the bus coming from the opposite direction in Kakadanga area of Fakirhat around 4:30pm, leaving five people dead on the spot.
An injured woman died on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH). The other injured were admitted to different hospitals, including the KMCH, the OC added.
Locals said the accident led to long tailbacks in both directions. The tailbacks eased around 6:00pm following efforts by members of Bagerhat Fire Service and Civil Defense, Katakhali Highway Police Station and Fakirhat Police Station.
Fakirhat OC said they were trying to trace the drivers of the two vehicles.
The bodies of the victims were at the upazila health complex and highway police station till filing of this report.
