Six arrested over rape of four girls
Police in the last two days arrested six people, including a teenager, on charges of raping four girls in separate incidents in four districts.
In Cumilla, police on Sunday evening arrested three people following a reported “gunfight” over gang-raping a garment worker at Daudkandi upazila on Friday night, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station.
Of the arrestees, Golam Rabbi and Rabbi Ahmed suffered bullet injuries during the “shootout” in Badalkhali area while another accused Al Amin was arrested earlier.
The victim works in a garment factory in Chattogram and came to Cumilla on Friday night to marry Golam upon the latter’s assurance as the two had a romantic affair.
Later, the three took the girl to a nearby fishery and gang-raped her, the OC said, quoting the victim.
In Mymensingh, police yesterday arrested a man on suspicion of attempting to rape a five-year-old girl in Sankipara area on Sunday.
Roman Mia, 40, is a resident of the same area, said Monshur Ahammad, OC of Kotwali Police Station.
In Faridpur, police yesterday arrested Ikram Sheikh, 20, on charge of raping an eighth-grader in Baliakandi upazila on Sunday.
The victim’s mother told the journalists that Ikram had been stalking her daughter for the last few days.
On Sunday night, he entered their house around 8:00pm when no one else was there except for her daughter, the mother said, adding that he then dragged her to a nearby abandoned house and raped her.
A case was filed with Baliakandi Police Station in this connection, said AKM Azmal Huda, OC of the police station.
In Sunamganj, police arrested a 13-year-old boy for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.
Talking to the journalists, the victim’s mother alleged that the accused boy lived in their neighbourhood.
On Saturday evening, the boy took the girl to his house by luring her with chocolates and raped her.
The victim is being treated at Sunamganj Hospital, the OC said.
