Sinha Murder Case: Court records confessional statements of four accused
Four accused in the Maj (retd) Sinha murder case gave confessional statements before a Cox's Bazar court yesterday following the end of their second-phase remand of four days.
They were produced before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah around 11:00am, said Senior ASP Khairul Islam, who works at Rab and is also the investigation officer of the case.
The four accused are ASI Liton Mia and three constables -- Safanur Karim, Kamal Hosen and Abdullah Al Mamun.
Earlier, they were taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital around 10:00am for health check-up from Rab custody, said Shaheen Md Abdur Rahman, resident doctor of the hospital.
Later, they were sent to jail around 5:00pm, said the investigation officer.
With the four, 12 accused in the case have so far given their confessional statements in the case. Pradeep Kumar Das, former officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, is the only accused who has not yet made the statement.
On the night of July 31, Maj (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan was returning to Cox's Bazar from Teknaf. His car was stopped at Shaplapur on Marine Drive.
Police claimed that they tried to search the vehicle, and Sinha aimed his pistol at them prompting them to shoot back in self-defence. They also claimed that they seized drugs from the vehicle.
However, witnesses gave a different account of the incident. They said Sinha got down from his car, put his hands over his head, and then police shot him.
Sinha's elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case on August 5 with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in connection with the incident. She accused the policemen of killing her brother in cold blood.
