A Chattogram court yesterday framed charges against former Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Ruhul Amin and 35 others on charges of misappropriating Tk 19 crore allocated for land acquisition for Matarbari Coal Power Plant, said Anti-Corruption Commission lawyer Salauddin Lavlu.
Ruhul was the DC of Cox's Bazar from September 2012 to February 2015. During his tenure, 1,414 acres of land was acquired in Moheshkhali upazila for the power plant, court sources.
In the process, Tk 19.82 crore was pocketed from the land acquisition fund, the sources added.
Later, local businessman AKM Kaisarul Islam Chowdhury filed a case against Ruhul Amin, his deputy Jafor Alam and others in 2014.
