Over 3.8 lakh infected, new cases 1,537
Twenty-two people were reported dead from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8:30am yesterday, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With this, the total number of deaths rose to 5,577, while the death rate stood at 1.46 percent.
Another 1,537 cases were recorded in the meantime, taking the total number of people infected to 381,275, added the press release.
Against a number of 13,815 tests, the positivity rate was 11.13 percent while the overall positivity rate stood at 18.17 percent.
At least 1,537 Covid-19 patients recovered in the same 24 hours, which took the total number of recoveries to 295,873, while the overall recovery rate stood at 77.6 percent.
Among the newly infected, 4,292 were males and 1,285 were females. Of the 22 newly deceased, 17 were aged above 50 years.
So far, 2,844 people have died in Dhaka division, 1,122 in Chattogram, 359 in Rajshahi, 449 in Khulna, 193 in Barisal, 238 in Sylhet, 254 in Rangpur and 118 in Mymensingh.
Bangladesh reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8. The number of cases reached the 300,000-mark on August 26. The first death was reported on March 18 and the death toll exceeded 5,000 on Sept 22.
Across the country, 12,501 people are now in isolation and 40,576 are in quarantine.
